On Monday (July 20), the Government of Laos has decided to continue the process of strict monitoring people who plans to enter into the country. “It is in a bid to keep away the second wave of coronavirus pandemic,” according to a report from the Lao Ministry of Health.

On the same day, the National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control in Laos has confirmed that it has monitored around 2,945 people at 70 accommodation centers in the country.

People who enter Laos are required to be sent to quarantine centers for 14 days after their body temperature is checked upon arrival. The country has not reported any new cases of COVID-19 since over last 3 months.

On Sunday (July 19), a total number of 1,655 people entered into Laos though checkpoints at the international borders. Among them, around 633 people crossed the border from Thailand.

In addition, 761 people from Vietnam, 23 people from China and 5 people from Cambodia entered into the country.  A total of 202 people also entered Laos through Wattay International Airport in Vientiane, the capital of the country.

In the end of May, the government had removed travel restrictions and allowed Laos nationals holding valid travel documents to enter and exit Laos with key measures of public health safety as issued by the government to ensure the effective control of COVID-19 pandemic.

Moreover, all international travelers in Laos who plan to travel abroad amid coronavirus pandemic will be required to have a medical certificate for their destination country. Medical certificate issued by the hospitals should certify that the traveler is not having any COVID-19 symptoms and tested negative to COVID-19.

In regard to COVID-19 transmission in Laos, the country has reported a total number of 19 confirmed cases which are in a stable condition and no patient has died due to virus. However, 19 patients who tested positive to COVID-19 have completely recovered from the virus, as of Tuesday (July 21).
