Laos Eases Travel Restrictions

The Government of Laos has decided to ease the travel restrictions and announced that travelers (including Lao citizens, students, experts and diplomats) with valid travel documents which are authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are now permitted to enter and exit Laos.

Around 1,930 people entered into Laos from Thailand, Vietnam and China through international border checkpoints on Monday (May 25), according to officials. The body temperature of each person entering into Laos was checked and no one had signs of fever or other symptoms of COVID-19. Moreover, all workers returning to their homes in Laos were sent to a quarantine centre for 14 days.

Rattanaxay Phetsavanh, Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control under Lao Ministry of Health, said in a press conference on Tuesday (May 26) that all travelers would be required to continually follow the all key measures of public health safety issued by the government to ensure the effective control of COVID-19 pandemic and to prevent the spread of the virus. However, for more than a month, Laos has not reported any new COVID-19 case and no death caused by the virus till date.

On Tuesday (May 26), the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control announced that it has been monitoring 3,756 people at 90 accommodation centres across the country.

As of Wednesday (May 27), there are 19 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and are in a stable condition while 14 patients have completely recovered.
