Thailand reported 91 new coronavirus cases

  • Thailand reported 91 new coronavirus cases and one death, bringing the total number of infections to 1,136 amid five deaths.
  • Thailand has recorded 107 new coronavirus cases, bringing the nationwide total to 934.
  • The government has declared a state of emergency which will give extra authority to officials. The government also approved a US$3.25 billion stimulus package.
  • The country has reported its second COVID-19 related death, amid 721 infections.
  • Thailand will close its land borders beginning late on Monday to curb the spread of the virus. Among the border checkpoints ordered closed were the crossings between Thailand and Malaysia, Thailand and Laos in Nakhon Phanom, and the crossings between Thailand and Cambodia in Sa Kaeo Province.
  • Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang signed a shutdown order effective from Sunday to April 12. The order will see the closure of restaurants, department stores, markets, schools, barbers, sports stadiums, golf courses, and massage parlours, among others. Exceptions include takeaway restaurants, supermarkets, drug stores, and food markets.
  • Thailand will stop issuing visas on arrival for visitors from all countries that were previously eligible for them. The country will also cancel visa exemptions for visitors from South Korea, Italy and Hong Kong.
  • Travelers  from China, Macau, Hong Kong, Iran, Italy and South Korea are now required to present a medical certificate proving they are not infected with Covid-19 before boarding their flight to Thailand.
