Starting from December 1, 2020, air passengers of Jetstar Asia Airways departing from 6 Southeast Asian cities will be able to transit via Changi Airport in Singapore to 9 destinations served by the low cost airline, as long as they transit within 48 hours.

Jetstar Asia Airways has confirmed at a press conference on Friday (Nov 20) that the six Southeast Asian cities are Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Phnom Penh.

Transit passengers will need to book the entire itinerary in one booking. As restrictions may apply, all passengers must comply with the requirements of the relevant authorities to ensure that they meet the entry requirements for their last destination.

Passengers will require following some measures that has been introduced by the airline. They will be required to also wear a wristband provided at the port of origin check-in. They will be allowed to sit in the front of the plane to disembark first. They will be being guided by airport staff to the transit waiting area or transit hotel.

However, transit passengers travelling from Vietnam do not require meeting these measures due to unilateral opening of the border to the country. All passengers flying to Singapore must wear face masks at all times and keep a safe distance from others.

Mr Barathan Pasupathi, chief executive officer of Jetstar Asia Airways, has said in his statement that transit and transfer passengers accounted for up to one-third of the passenger traffic at the Changi Airport, before the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of them traveled and transited on Jetstar Asia Airways flights.

He said that Jetstar Asia Airways has partnered with Changi Airport to ensure a smooth and safe transit experience for passengers. It has also taken other measures through its Fly Well program to provide greater peace of mind when passengers return to air travel.

He also said that low fares services are playing an important role in helping the passengers reconnect with their family, prompting people to return to work and other essential travel. The budget carrier also help promote the community and economic development of the destinations we fly to and this means more of us return to work, which is also good news.
