The national flag carrier Air India has announced a special scheme for senior citizens offering a concession of 50% on the base fare. The special scheme applies only to domestic flights and travelers over the age of 60 years can take advantage of the scheme.

According to the carrier’s official website (www.airindia.in), the national carrier has set up a criterion whereby only the relevant persons would be permitted to avail themselves of the scheme.

The scheme clearly mentions that the concession should be applied on tickets booked for a senior citizen of Indian nationality that reside permanently in India and should have reached the age of 60 years on the date of the beginning of travel.

In accordance with the official quotation of Air India, those who are willing to use the scheme must note that concession of 50 per cent is being provided only on the base fare on making reservation in the Economy cabin.

In addition, the total price of an airline ticket is not limited to the basic fare. A potential air ticket also includes passenger service fees, airline fuel charges, airport and/or user development fees taxes, common user terminal fee and other applicable convenience fees.

An air ticket must be purchased three days prior to the travel date and the concession for the same will be valid for one year. At the time of making reservation, any valid photo ID with date of birth such as passport, driving license, voter’s ID card, senior citizens ID card issued by Air India etc, must be provided to take advantage of the scheme while reserving the ticket.

Boarding will be not allowed if the valid ID card is not provided during the check-in and at the boarding gate. However, if the relevant ID or documents are not presented, the ticket amount will not be refunded and the basic fare will be forfeited, only taxes and fees will be refunded.

The concession of 50 per cent applies on flights operated by Air India and Alliance Air code share flights. The scheme is not applicable to Air India Express code share domestic flights and regional connectivity Alliance Air code share flights.
