Local media has reported on Tuesday (August 4) that Ministry of Tourism and local tour operators in Cambodia are organizing discounted luxury tour packages to the popular tourist destinations likewise the Angkor Archaeological Park in northwestern Siem Reap province, amid the current situation of COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Mr. Chhun Makara, director of the department of travel agency, transport and tourism guide at the Tourism Ministry, has stated that these packages will create new experiences and value for domestic tourists, while ensuring their health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The package will include 5 star services and travelers will stay in 5 star hotels at the “highest price ever”, especially in historical and cultural tourist attractions in Siem Reap province. The tours will center around low-income and middle-income earners in Cambodia and will be for two to three days.

Siem Reap province is home to the world famous Angkor Archaeological Park. According to an official report, the park attracted about 3,89,600 foreign tourists in the first 7 months of this year, a decline of 72 per cent from the same period of last year due to coronavirus.

As tourism industry has badly affected by current COVID-19 pandemic, the tourism ministry has decided to launch discounted luxury tour packages for domestic travelers to revive the tourism and economy as well.

Cambodia is a well known tourist destination in Southeast Asia and bordered by the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest, Thailand to the northwest, Laos to the northeast and Vietnam to the east. So the Cambodia tour package is an ideal way to start a trip of Southeast Asia.

In regard to total COVID-19 cases in Cambodia, the country has reported a total number of 266 confirmed cases and no death caused by virus, till the date. However, 220 patients tested positive to COVID-19 have completely recovered, as of Tuesday (August 11).
