The low cost airline Scoot, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, has made an announcement that it will resume its operations of commercial passenger flights from Surabaya, Indonesia to Singapore starting from July 17, 2020.

The carrier has informed that it will operate a weekly flight every Friday i.e. July 17, 24 and 31 on route from Surabaya to Singapore, using an Airbus A320 aircraft. It will be one of the first five Scoot’s flight operations to resume since the carrier suspended all domestic and international flight operations in March, in a bid to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

Moreover, Scoot has introduced an increased level of health and safety protocols and will continue to monitor developments to reopen more routes.

Mr. Calvin Chan, Scoot Chief Commercial Officer, said in statement, “We are happy to be able to resume operations from Surabaya to Singapore although with lower frequency, especially to serve those needed to travel home.”

He further said that Scoot has processed around 6,500 requests from Indonesian passengers for cash refund towards suspended flight due to COVID-19. Indonesia is an important market for Singapore and the Surabaya-Singapore flight service is a positive step towards the resumption of economic activities which has been paused due to the pandemic.

In regards to COVID-19 transmission, the COVID-19 cases are still rising in both countries and Indonesia has reported a total number of 81,668 confirmed cases which are under treatment and 3,873 patients have lost their lives due to virus. However, 40,345 patients who tested positive to COVID-19 have completely recovered from the virus, till date.

Whereas, Singapore has reported a total number of 47,126 confirmed cases, 27 deaths caused by virus and 43,256 complete recoveries, as of Friday (July 17).
