The Myanmar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced on Sunday (June 28) that it has decided to extend the temporary restrictions on entry of international visitors into Myanmar from all countries. The restriction will now continue till July 31 in an effort to limit the risks of import and spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The restriction on foreigner’s entry was due to end on June 30. This is the sixth time restrictions have been extended, although some other restrictions have been gradually removed.

The restrictions include precautionary measures against all travelers like temporary suspension of international flight operations, a ban on issuing all visas and visa-exemption services as well as a quarantine of 3 weeks for Myanmar nationals returning home by relief flights and across borders.

However, United Nations officials, diplomats and foreign nationals who need to travel to Myanmar on relief flight should contact the nearest Myanmar Missions abroad for entry.

The ministry also urged all travelers to follow the latest instructions issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports from time to time.

The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) also made an announcement on Sunday (June 28) addressed to all airlines operating international air services to and from Myanmar airports that it will extend its measures against COVID-19 including ban on landing of all international passenger flights at all Myanmar airports till end of the July.

According to the Central Committee on COVID-19 Control, led by de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi, night curfew from 12 am to 4 am will also remain in place along with the ban on gatherings of more than five people except gatherings in funerals, marriages and work-related matters.

In regards to COVID-19 transmission in Myanmar, the country has reported a total number of 299 confirmed cases which are under treatment and 6 patients have died due to virus. However, 218 patients who tested positive to COVID-19 have completely recovered from the virus, as of Monday (June 29).
